Dialogue Form& Functions

Today we learn about form and function. Do you know meaning of form and functions?

                                            What Are Language Functions and Form? 

FUNCTIONS

Functions is the natural purpose (of something) or the duty (of a person).

EXAMPLE OF FUNCTION:

1.   "Close the windows."

2.   His job combines the functions of a manager and a worker.

3.   Her chief/main/primary/principal function is to provide expert legal advice

FORMS

The Functions of Language include its purpose, its use, and what it does. 
These include the following: 
1. Informative language function: communicating information, such as 
facts. 
2. Expressive language function: reporting feelings or attitudes or evoking 
these feelings in the reader/listener. 
3. Directive language function: using language to cause or prevent 
actions, such as in commands or requests

EXAMPLE OF FORM:

1. The medicine can be taken in the form of a liquid or pill.
  = The medicine can be taken in pill or liquid form.

2.  He was at the top of his form.
  =He was performing extremely well

3.  He's been playing poorly in recent months, but now he's back on form
  = Now he's playing well again
